New E-Bike Regulations for Tasmania

Getting around Tasmania by bike is challenging with its hills and distances between places. However, e-bikes are capable of reducing those challenges and the Tasmanian Government is considering changes to regulations to make e-bikes even more effective and applicable to the Tasmanian landscape.

The Tasmanian Government is reviewing e-bike regulations and want to know which aspects are important to you.

I'm hoping all the changes are implemented, including:
- Raise assist limit to 32 km/h
- Increase power limit to 750w
- Introduce speed e-bike class (45 km/h)

Just a few of the benefits I see are:

Shorter Travel Times

Higher assist speeds and motor power are likely to reduce trip times by increasing typical speed and hill climbing speeds (power).

Better Traffic Flow

By reducing the speed differential between motor vehicles and bikes, motor vehicles are less disrupted and less inclined to overtake, improving rider safety and reducing driver frustration.

Reduced Car Dependence

More capable e-bikes will make it less necessary to own a second (or any!) car, reducing cost of living.
